Job Description

We are seeking to recruit a Program Officer – Psychological Rehabilitation to lead the design, and provision of Psychological Rehabilitation services to victims and families of torture, ill-treatment, extra-judicial executions, and enforced disappearances. 



  •  Lead in designing, implementation and monitoring, and evaluation of psychological rehabilitation and documentation programs;
  •  Provide overall supervision and mentorship of the “Assistant Program Officer Medical Documentation & Psychological Rehabilitation” and all staff within the  Rehabilitation Department;
  •  Development of Counselling work plans and budgets and funding proposals
  •  Coordination of the network counselors providing rehabilitation services
  •  Development of psychological rehabilitation documentation tools
  •  Reporting on the counseling program in accordance with IMLU and donor requirements
  •  Manage the program budgets; monitor expenditure, identify budget gaps and proper accounts to donor funds.
  •  Design and implementation of counseling services that follow best practice guidelines in the trauma and torture field;
  •  Oversee the implementation of the staff care for caregivers (CFC) program.
  •  Conducting preliminary psychological assessments of torture survivors and or families;
  •  Provide individual and group psychological rehabilitation services
  •  Provide oversight of the psychological and medical rehabilitation for victims and their families;
  •  Authorize psychological rehabilitation of torture survivors;
  •  Conduct individual and group clinical supervision of network counselors;
  •  Quality control (receiving and analyzing) of reports presented by network counselors;
  •  Quality control of counseling services that are being provided to IMLU clients;
  •  Ensuring effective liaison with the Assistant Programme Officer Medical Rehabilitation to make linkages with doctors for medical rehabilitation;
  •  Maintain an updated and functional database of all cases undergoing rehabilitative services;
  •  Design and deliver training to the counseling network and other training as requested & needed
  •  Representing the organization in key strategic forums regarding rehabilitation;
  •  Working with key national, educational, and governmental organizations to have IMLU’s training and clinical supervision accredited
  •  Strengthening and expanding a highly competent and functional national network of trauma counselors;
  •  Develop and sustain constructive partnerships with media, relevant state agencies, civil society, development partners, and coordinate with national and regional stakeholders to promote IMLU’s mandate.


Skills and Qualifications

  •  Degree in Psychology/Counselling;
  •  Training in clinical supervision;
  •  Membership in at least one professional body e.g. the Kenya Counsellors & Psychologists Association
  •  Additional training in Project Cycle Management or Monitoring and Evaluation at the certificate level will be an added advantage
  •  At least 2-years’ experience in an NGO setting with interest in support to vulnerable sections of society and human rights protection.
  •  Demonstrable experience in psychological rehabilitation and clinical supervision
  •  Experience in performance management and program administration;
  •  Experience in staff supervision, mentorship, and coaching
