Job Description

Our client is looking to recruit an experienced Staff Counselor to provide professional stress management and counseling services that enable staff to maintain positive health, performance, and outlook. 

Scope of work

Provide staff counseling services three (3) days a week

Responsibilities

  • Provide empirically supported and culturally sensitive counseling services to staff
  • Performs individual assessments in the case of individual staff members experiencing difficulty coping and/or presenting mental health-related symptoms or syndromes;
  • Advises the management as necessary, on individual and /or group cases where an identified problem is likely to have a professional or counseling effect (e.g. work-related problem due to a psychological problem, conflict resolution, etc);
  • Advises the management as necessary, or upon request, with the aim of improving the working atmosphere and resolving problems of a work-related or personal nature that adversely affect job performance and productivity;
  • Monitors environmental factors that could lead to stress
  • Plan, develop and implement stress management training to all staff members
  • Performs Psychological first aid (e.g. individual and/or group) whenever and wherever there is a need;
  • In conjunction with the Medical Services, ensures a continuum of services (referral, short-term supportive intervention) to those staff members suffering from serious or chronic diseases or illnesses or drug and alcohol use;
  • Establishes a link and liaises with the members of the Staff Welfare Committee in order to develop programs designed to improve the quality of life of staff members within the organization;
  • Develops, organizes, and implements a resilience-building program for all staff;
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards related to the provision of psychological services consistent with the Counsellors and Psychologists Code of Ethics;
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least a Diploma in Counseling Psychology, a Degree in Counseling Psychology is an added advantage
  • Should be registered with the Kenya Counsellors and Psychologist’s Association (KCPA) and be a member of good standing
  • At least 3 years minimum experience providing counseling services
  • Ability to use a wide range of counseling methodologies
  • Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Additional training or certification in a broad range of related fields, such as alcohol/substance abuse, resilience, cross-cultural communication, conflict resolution, mediation, trauma, etc. will be an advantage.
