Job Description

Business Development Officer will be responsible for managing and administering marketing and business development plans and initiatives (such as member recruitment, retention, savings mobilization, and activation of dormant members) for NYUMBA SACCO to improve its market position and achieve financial growth. He/She will promote an environment founded on values of Customer Focus, Innovation, Integrity, Transparency, Reliability, and Social Responsibility. 



  • Ensure all marketing activities are within the set budgets 
  • Develop new business relationships, generate and negotiate new income for Sacco at an agreed growth-oriented annual target and follow through on potential new business opportunities 
  • Screen potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities; recommending equity investments. 
  • Oversee recruitment of new members by setting up initiatives that will support the acquisition 
  • Close new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; integrating contract requirements with business operations. 
  • Ensuring regular, timely, and effective member communication. 
  • Conduct Marketing activities based on knowledge of the customer's segments and target market, so as to deliver products and services that satisfy the market segments 
  • Responsible for customer relations and maintaining the SACCO’s image. 
  • Develop and implement appropriate communication and public relations strategies 
  • Ensure provision of education and training programs to the Sacco leadership, and Sacco members 
  • Manage all internal and external communications for the business including brand identity, media liaison, and PR 
  • Identify the target and potential markets and design ways to consistently communicate the brand and products in all marketing activities 
  • Handling all marketing and public relations activities of the Sacco 
  • Promotion of Sacco products and loans for member uptake 
  • Planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives 
  • Manage publications including but not limited to writing speeches, annual accounts, periodic newsletters, brochures, etc 
  • Implement the design, execution, and communication of primary marketing research studies to evaluate specific performance, SACCO positioning, competitive positioning, and customer profiling as well as manage the analysis and interpretation of secondary research data to provide direction for strategic plans 
  • Putting in place structures that foster excellent customer service delivery 
  • Proactively provide information, history, continuity, support, and guidance to all governance bodies and members, in conjunction with the staff team. 


Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field (Business, Co-operative Management, and Marketing Options) 
  • Marketing Certification or Equivalent is an added advantage. 
  • 3 years experience in a Business Development environment, specifically in a Regulated SACCO.    
  • In-depth Knowledge of SASRA Regulations.
