The Ecumenical Pharmaceutical Network is seeking an experienced Business development consultant with skills in developing successful grant/proposals. In this position, on a retainer basis, you will work with the Technical Advisor and will be tasked with leading and coordinating research of funding opportunities and the development of quality written content for technical and financial proposals.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Contribute to a global, coordinated fundraising strategy for EPN
  2. Work collaboratively with EPN to help identify and plan strategies to position EPN with potential partners and donors Bid development
  3. Contacting potential partners (NGOs) to arrange meetings and establish relations for joint proposal writing and implementation of awarded projects.
  4. Sharing the experience with the staff and helping them develop their skills in proposal development
  5. Support EPN to seek and respond to restricted funding opportunities
  6. Responsible for delivering high quality, tailored content for technical proposals or related documents in full compliance with the requirements and quality standards of EPN and funding agencies developing competitive funding proposals by coordinating with EPN, and acting as lead  writer
  7. Ensure the Funding strategy & positioning is aligned to program priorities
  8. Rapidly pull together bid materials (proposal, presentation, concept outline) that bring a project or program idea into a concrete, fundable proposition
  9. Provide bid development for single and multi-country bids, regional and global calls, and where EPN is a member of a consortium (as lead or sub)
  10. Design and lead on proposal development workshops to bring together and validate consortia/bid team inputs
  11. Ensure legally binding teaming agreements are in place with consortia partners, and facilitate internal proposal risk assessment sign-offs by the Executive Director
  12. Ensure Value for Money arguments and Theories of Change and Cost Recovery are clearly articulated in all proposals

 

Key Performance Indicators:

  1. Number of proposals submitted
  2. Quality/Success rate of proposals increases
  3. Bid teams work rapidly and effectively (monitored through feedback on the process and the outcome of submissions)
  4. The EPN’s donor base is deepened and diversified
  5. The number of major donors, trusts & foundations, and institutional donors (directly or via NGO partners) supporting focus countries increases

 

Skills and Qualifications

  1. Proven experience in preparing compelling, high-quality documentation (concept notes, presentations, proposals, budgets, reports, log-frames, Theories of Change, etc) for different donor audiences
  2. Proven track record in writing winning donor proposals for donors including USAID, EC, UKAID, SIDA, and UN Agencies –excellent knowledge of donor proposal formats, log frames, and budgeting
  3. Experience in establishing and cultivating strong donor relationships that have delivered substantially increased income
  4. Proven experience of evaluating proposals and providing high quality analytical, feedback to programs
  5. Familiarity with M&E tools; theories of change, monitoring frameworks, and basic evaluation techniques
  6. Proven ability to research new funding opportunities and to make appropriate judgments about their potential to realize significant restricted income
  7. Strong interpersonal skills, including written, verbal, and presentation skills used in international settings – the experience of leading and facilitating workshops and training
  8. Proven experience of establishing and negotiating partnerships between organizations; experience in developing and writing consortia proposals and teaming agreements as part of consortia bid development
  9. Strong administrative and organizational skills: ability to be self-directed and take initiative
  10. Strong analytical and financial and skills Qualifications required
  11. Educated to degree level in an international development-related discipline
  12. IT skills including fluency in Microsoft Office suite and database usage. Experience in working with international organizations
  13. Fluency in English (written and spoken). Portuguese, French or other languages desirable
